Colorblind Cupid, Chinese Ambassador, and Love Generously, because I really like what you write and you make me laugh and cry and think I have awarded the three of you a badge called “Be the Blog”. Whether you all want to put it up somewhere as an honor or not, please know that I admire your dedication to this blog. Instructions are in a post called “Don’t Bogart the Badge” on my blog.
Cast of Characters
Colorblind Cupid’s family:
Saresh = husband. Met CBC in college; refused arranged marriage by parents; becomes lawyer instead of doctor; strife, hilarity, and eventual family bonding ensue.
DD = daughter. 4 going on 30; only grandchild on either side of family and spoiled accordingly; the princess who reigns over both the Indian and white kingdoms
MIL = Saresh’s mother (CBC’s mother-in-law). Devout Hindu; devoted mother; wears the proverbial pants in the family; immigrated to U.S. in the early 1980s.
FIL = Saresh’s father. Quiet, accountant, immigrated to U.S. in the early 1980s.
Auntie B = CBC’s sister; DD’s aunt; DD’s favorite person in the whole world after mom and dad
The Village = the South Indian community Saresh and CBC belong to
Uncle B (and Auntie) = Saresh’s pushy uncle; MIL’s brother-in-law; lives in same city as us
ChineseAmbassador’s family:
Ang = husband. Met CA in college, refused arranged marriage, and we married in 2001.
Little Mommy (LM) = daughter, 5 going on 30. Could probably run her own country, if given the chance.
Middle Chen = middle son, a loose cannon in every way.
Baby Chen = baby son, always happy and smiling - we call him the “bonus round”
The Matriarch = Ang’s mother, immigrated to the US in 1989. Ang’s father passed away in 2002.
Love Generously’s Family:
Strive = my husband, because he’s always striving to be better, to do more and to help others
Lance = my 5-year-old son, because he is all about speed, not unlike that “other” Lance
Sunshine = my 5-year-old daughter, because she is “oh so Merry”
Wink = my 3-year-old son, because he has developed a penchant for winking at women in the grocery!

Thank you very much!
I’ll see if I can manage to follow the instructions (hee hee) - if not, CA may have to do it. So cool!

Welcome to both of you!
cbgrace - your little people post on your blog was hysterical. The whole cookie/washing hands episode is so typical. My daughter is 3.5 and that’s almost EVERY time we wash hands. She shrieks “It’s too hot! Too hot!” even when only the cold water is on. When you tell her only the cold is on, she’ll go “Oh. It’s too cold. Too cold!” Then if you get her sleeves wet (even a drop) she gets upset and whines. I think it’s just the genetic program of a toddler. Still, drunken behavior aside, they’re totally worth it. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my whole life - or had as much fun, or ever felt that amazing kind of love that you do as a parent. There’s nothing like it.
I just got back from doing my daughter’s preschool Christmas party this morning. What a hoot! 7 3-year-olds - they were so cute. They decorated cookies and we played games and they just giggled and giggled. A good stress relief for adults. ![]()

This is the first blog I’ve found while “tag surfing” that I’ll be visiting again!
Being married to a Yucatec Maya from southern Mexico and having just moved back to the States with him, I’ve found just enough familiar stuff here to make me nod my head. And lots of new stuff about interracial marriages with folks from different cultures that I’m excited about exploring more.

Welcome! If you don’t mind my asking, what tag did you use? I’m curious how people find the site (other than us whiteys/Indian mixes who all type in roughly the same search terms! Oy.)

Hmm…I honestly don’t remember the tag I used. I think it was actually just on the first page of related tags, as someone had just posted.

I am white/native american mix. I know chineseambassador personally and that is how I found out about this blog. I dated a very cute Puerto Rican once. Everyone he met thought he was Indian though. Now I am married to a fully white person. I love chineseambassador’s writing she always makes me laugh so I am super glad to have seen this blog so now I can come back and not only see her funny posts but also her two companions posts as well!

I love this site. It’s great to know that there are others out there that can relate to me and my issues
I keep trying to keep up with the postings, but every day I leave and come back the next day, or over the next couple of days and there is so much to read. My SO, Raj is East Indian.. but was born in Canada. I’m a native Floridian… white. I have two sons.. one is 7 the other will be 3 next month. I’m divorced (not b/c of anything I did). Raj and I are engaged… but his parents don’t know yet. Raj is actually the person who found this site and told me to go and check it out. I love it, I want to be able to read some more of the postings and post some myself, but school just started back and stuff… but I will be coming back every chance I get
Have a great day!

Hi Crystal!
Oooh - I don’t do MySpace - freaks me out. My kid’s eventually going to be one of those who had to sneak off to a friend’s house to secretly do MySpace, because it’s just not happening for her here.

LOL.. I have a myspace to keep in touch with my family.. and som friends from high school.. but I really don’t use it for anything.. I don’t think I want my kids on there either. I’ve contemplated deleting my account b/c I don’t use it for anything except for my family.

hmmm myspace is one of my ways of keeping in contact with my real friends and family. No one on my page is a stranger. I will let my kids have a page when they are old enough to not act dumb and abuse it so um about 30 lol. No seriously I think a lot of kids growing up now have way to much freedom…2 piece swim suits at 1, make up at 5, cell phones at 7, hair dyed at 10, new cars at 16, and that is just a girl… sigh. Ok I am sure this might have opened up a few cans of worms.

Myspace is great because it’s FREE!!!! And I’m a cheap ass.
I have a myspace page for my dance students, where I post my sign-up information, info on dancewear, dates, times, fees, videos of their performances, etc etc. It’s fab.
Would I use Myspace as my main form of socializing? lol No way - we got blogs for that!!!
And my kids aren’t going to know about the internet until they are 12 anyway, since they are all going to be enrolled in science club, dance lessons, and CHINESE SCHOOL…muhahahaha

WMWB, I agree totally with you. These kids don’t need all of that, at least in my opinion. What happened to just going outside and playing or getting on your bicycle and hanging with friends. Mom and dad refused to let us stay inside and play on the Nitendo unless it was rainy outside.

How do I get a little icon? Like my picture or something?

You need to set up an account with WordPress (easy and simple) and then download an avatar for yourself. It can be your picture - you just have to size it down small (otherwise when you load it it will just be your nose or something!). You upload the avatar you saved to your WordPress profile then.
