Mildred Loving Dies

Mildred Loving, matriarch of interracial marriage, dies

I just wanted to pay homage to a great woman who paved the way for so many of us. Here’s another part to her story on the the Loving Day web site. The Loving Day web site has fabulous information on the court history of interracial marriage, real couple testimonies, resources for interracial couples, and more. You can always find the link under our blogroll in “Resources.”

We’re actually going to be having a Loving Day party in June on Colorblind Cupid. Watch for details soon on how you can participate in the festivities!

Oops, I think my last post got eaten by the spam filter (it was under a different name; feel free to delete it).

Mildred Loving released a statement last year for the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Court verdict. She was a very wise woman; here is her statement if you’d like to read it: http://www.positiveliberty.com/2007/06/mildred-lovings-statement.html

OOoo im lookin forward to these celebrations - it sounds mysterious! lol not heard of Loving Day before, but checked it out and was v sightful. Don’t think it has ever been illegal in Britain for interracial marriages and the thought of it had never occurred to me to b honest! Crazy societies that have been in the past!

What’s really sad is that the last state to lift the interracial marriage ban was in the 1990s! They couldn’t technically enforce it, because the Supreme Court had overturned it, but I think it says something that they made of point of not repealing their own state law until the late 20th century.

It is very hard to believe that the Supreme Court decision was so recent! I like the Lovings’ story. And they have such a nice last name. I think a blog party sounds fun. Can’t wait to hear more about how that’s going to work. :)
