Stuff Asian People Like

So yes, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon with the whole “Stuff White People Like“, and now there’s a blog written by Asians about Asians.

So far I identify with almost all of their posts, although this blog isn’t nearly as funny as the white one. (ha!)

and of course, Academics

  1. You know what is really funny about that site? They copied someone else’s idea, essentially, and put it on a network called “ThinkUnique.” Ahhhh, irony at its finest.

  2. Hahaha, this site is hilarious too! I definitely fit #21 with growing stuff in the yard. Mint, basil, bell pepper, jalapeno pepper, squash, okra, tomatoes, strawberries, etc. Each year, I usually buy a hanging strawberry basket for my patio. I dried some fresh basil from our garden. Speaking of foods, our grocery store just starting carrying logans. I was super excited..now if they’ll only carry lychees :) I’m not asian..but I do love their fruit :)

  3. I was sooo angry when my apt complex cut down the asian pear tree. Not only did they destroy the tree..I couldn’t get my free pears anymore.. nor could I share them :(

  4. HA! that “thinkunique” thing cracked me up!

  5. I’m still up in the air if I like the “Stuff White People Like”. If I wrote one saying “Stuff Mexican People Like” I would probably get into trouble.

  6. yeah, that’s why it gets a lot of negative reaction. The standard response seems to be “it’s funny to make racist jokes about white people because they are privileged and it doesn’t hurt them, but if you make the same jokes about brown people it is evil and racist because they are oppressed.”

At least that’s what I’ve gotten from the comments so far.

So it makes perfect sense to some people, and no sense to others.

  7. maybe there should be a “stuff indian people like” too…. im pretty sure everyone will be offended.

btw im really confused what i am ……. when i applied for my ssn, they told me to check the box that read white/caucasian. my employer lists me as Pacific Islander/Asian and I hear the word Asian Indian thrown around a lot. lol

  8. “stuff Indian people like” – we already did that here, remember? They like white women! And yes, everyone seemed to be offended. Agh – I shouldn’t even joke about it now, lest people get their hackles up about that again!

Hey 6mile – I wrote a way old post on that, but I can’t remember the title! It would have been from last July or August, I think.

Anyway, Saresh has always had trouble with that. If they offer the choice, technically you’re Asian Indian (for demographic purposes in the U.S.), but many forms don’t list that – just “Asian” is fine (that’s what Saresh puts). You’re not Pacific Islander, but your employer may be grouping them together with Asian for their own purposes (they probably don’t care).

Whenever Saresh has gotten a traffic ticket, the cops always check the “white” box, because they don’t know what race he is! Now that he’s shaved his head, he really confuses people – some people can’t figure out if he’s black, or just a really dark white person, or what. Now with the shaved head, his race seems even more questionable and he seems to get more confused stares.

  9. hahaha that’s funny. CS I’m sure goes through that too, but I’ve never asked. I will though. When he shaved his head in the past and had pictures of it.. I almost can’t tell he’s Indian. He looks like a very dark skinned white person, a very light skinned black person from the back, or possibly Hispanic LOL. Well, I found out that a whole branch of my cousins have been checking native american for years even though they don’t have the official cards. They figured even though they gave up the land rights, that didn’t mean they had to give up their heritage..so who knows, maybe i’ll start doing the same. That should confuse some people.

  10. lol. sure must be confusing, pepz mistake me to be mexican, i’ve mentioned that before,i guess.

indian men like white women, at least most of them, but then again many of the indian girls I know, like black men, the paradox is funny to me.

Anyways……you have a birds eye view of what indian people like, lol……..like Big glittery parties, where all i can think of is eating loads of yummy food

  11. When I first found the stuff white people like website I noticed someone commented on the asian one copying their format and piggybacking off their idea…I think it is funny….especially because it is not known what race the author of the blog is.

  12. sorry for the double post but OMG so I went to the asian one and there is a link for Stuff Lesbians Like…. ha ha ha I was too afraid to click on it!

  13. Hey! Here’s a new one.

  15. how did your weekend meet and greet with the parents go?

  16. @ Whiteymcwhitebread

I am the webmistress of the “Stuff Lesbians Like” site, and I would like to invite you to visit to allay any fears you may have. Lesbians like to complain about the lack of good TV and make fun of silly hair. My girlfriend wants to write a post on how lesbian mothers believe their kids are special and need industrial sized strollers (I think that’s just a yuppie thing, so it remains to be debated). Contrary to what right wing legislators tend to spew, lesbians are pretty much like everyone else and aren’t fearsome by any means.

  17. That’s this weekend, actually, the other one was postponed due to a flu. I’ll let you know– but his mom has been saying really, really encouraging things to him. Including that she’s ok with having the engagement ceremony after I graduate. So…. yay? I can’t get used to it, I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

  18. lol

hi Grace – (not speaking for whitey here) but there are some “right wingers” around these parts. :) (Well, maybe less right wing, and more religious, if that makes it scarier.)

  19. LOL, religion isn’t scary. Most of my family is Catholic. My girlfriend’s family is Jewish. When I say “right wingers” I mean the folks who take things a little too far compare same sex relationships with acts of terrorism. (Here is the latest example)

Anyway, religion is great when it uplifts and gives people comfort. I only take issue with people who use religion to tear others down.

Since this blog is about interracial relationships, I should probably stay on topic. Anyway, I’m going to quote from the 1967 Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia, which finally legalized interracial marriage and is an example of what I just stated in the previous paragraph:

In June 1958, two residents of Virginia, Mildred Jeter, a Negro woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, were married in the District of Columbia pursuant to its laws. Shortly after their marriage, the Lovings returned to Virginia and established their marital abode in Caroline County. At the October Term, 1958, of the Circuit Court of Caroline County, a grand jury issued an indictment charging the Lovings with violating Virginia’s ban on interracial marriages. On January 6, 1959, the Lovings pleaded guilty to the charge and were sentenced to one year in jail; however, the trial judge suspended the sentence for a period of 25 years on the condition that the Lovings leave the State and not return to Virginia together for 25 years. He stated in an opinion that:

“Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.”

I think that speaks for itself. Glad to know things have progressed since then.
